AB 354 Summary

• Adds American Academy of Family Physicians to the entities whose immunization recommendations the State Department of Public Health must consider when determining appropriate vaccines for school admission.

• Removes varicella (chickenpox) immunization requirement from the condition that funds must be appropriated in the annual Budget Act and eliminates the department's authority to adopt emergency regulations for varicella.

• Eliminates hepatitis B immunization as a requirement for 7th grade admission or advancement, effective July 1, 2011.

• Requires full immunization against pertussis with all age-appropriate boosters as a condition for admission or advancement to grades 7-12, effective July 1, 2011.

• Establishes that the state shall reimburse local agencies and school districts for costs mandated by this act, if determined by the Commission on State Mandates.
