AJR 39 Summary

• Calls upon the National Governors Association and Council of Chief State School Officers to develop common core state standards in English-language arts, mathematics, history-social science, and science

• Requests that organizations replicate the process used to develop English-language arts and mathematics standards to now develop common core standards for social studies and science

• Directs examination of viability for developing common standards in additional subject areas including foreign language, visual and performing arts, physical education, and career technical education

• Requires the California Legislature to transmit copies of this resolution to the President, Vice President, Congress members, and national education organizations
