SB 1150 Summary

• Requires certain healing arts licensees (chiropractors, dentists, physicians, nurses, psychologists, etc.) to include professional designations (DC, DDS, MD, RN, etc.) immediately following their names in all advertisements, effective January 1, 2012.

• Mandates the Medical Board of California adopt regulations by January 1, 2012, establishing appropriate levels of physician availability in clinics using laser or intense light pulse devices for elective cosmetic procedures.

• Requires the Medical Board to post an easy-to-understand factsheet on its website educating the public about cosmetic surgery risks and including comprehensive patient questions.

• Expands outpatient setting regulations to include facilities offering in vitro fertilization and requires detailed plans for handling serious surgical complications; eliminates prior notice requirements for inspections and makes Medical Board evaluation of accreditation agencies mandatory rather than discretionary.

• Establishes citation and administrative fine system for accreditation agencies not meeting Medical Board criteria, and requires accreditation agencies to immediately report denials, suspensions, revocations, probations, and reprimands to the Board.
