SB 282 Summary

• Prohibits ammunition vendors from sharing purchaser information with third parties or using it for purposes other than those required by statute without written consent, effective February 1, 2011.

• Requires destruction of ammunition records no longer required to be maintained in accordance with Civil Code Section 1798.81.

• Prohibits firearms dealers from providing transaction information to third parties without written purchaser consent, except for authorized electronic submission to the Department of Justice.

• Requires destruction of firearms dealer records no longer required to be maintained in accordance with Civil Code Section 1798.81.

• Makes violations of these privacy provisions misdemeanors and becomes operative only if Assembly Bill 2358 is enacted and effective by January 1, 2011.
