AB 1432 Summary

• Requires parents or guardians of children under 14 years old to notify a public safety agency within 24 hours if they know or should know the child has died, except when a physician is providing immediate care or a public safety agency is already aware of the death.

• Requires parents or guardians to notify law enforcement within 24 hours if they know or should know a child under 14 is missing and there is evidence the child is at risk, unless law enforcement is already aware of the missing child.

• Violations are punishable as misdemeanors by up to one year in county jail, a fine not exceeding $1,000, or both.

• Prohibits this section from precluding prosecution under any other provision of law.

• Establishes no state reimbursement requirement for local agencies or school districts.
