AB 1435 Summary

• Adds athletic coaches, athletic administrators, and athletic directors employed by public or private K-12 schools to the list of mandated reporters under California's Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.

• Mandated reporters must report known or reasonably suspected child abuse or neglect; failure to report is punishable by up to 6 months in county jail, up to $1,000 fine, or both.

• Includes multiple alternative versions of the statute to coordinate with related bills (AB 1434, AB 1713, AB 1817, SB 1264) in case multiple bills are enacted simultaneously.

• States that no state reimbursement is required for local agencies or school districts because costs result from creating new criminal reporting obligations under existing law.
