AB 1481 Summary

• Requires at least one party on each side of a civil case to pay a nonrefundable $150 jury fee by the initial case management conference, with the fee offsetting state costs for providing juries in civil cases.

• Removes sex offender registration offenses from provisions allowing juvenile courts to retain jurisdiction over wards until age 25, instead limiting jurisdiction to age 23 for persons committed to the Division of Juvenile Facilities effective July 1, 2012, with retroactive application.

• Prohibits the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation from extending a ward's discharge consideration date for disciplinary incidents occurring after September 1, 2012.

• Appropriates $1,000 from the General Fund to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for administration.

• Takes effect immediately as a budget-related bill.
