AB 1518 Summary

• Authorizes weighmasters to use unattended automated weighing systems for vehicles transporting construction materials (earth, stone, rock, sand, gravel, limestone, concrete, asphalt, etc.) and issue certificates to buyers who opt to use the system.

• Defines "unattended weighing system" as an automated system not directly supervised by a weighmaster that meets existing approval, testing, and sealing requirements.

• Establishes higher license fees through January 1, 2020: $200 for fixed locations ($75 regular rate) and $300 for other locations ($200 regular rate), plus $50 per deputy weighmaster ($20 regular rate).

• Requires weighmasters using unattended systems to maintain the same average number of deputy weighmaster licensees as were licensed in the two years before implementing the unattended system, through January 1, 2020.

• Reverts to standard weighmaster license fees and eliminates the deputy weighmaster requirement on January 1, 2020, unless the statute is extended by later legislation.
