AB 1668 Summary

• Expands the definition of "dropout recovery high schools" to include schools where 50% or more of pupils either have been designated as dropouts or were not enrolled in any school for at least 180 days, in addition to existing dropout designations.

• Requires dropout recovery high schools to submit certification to the Superintendent demonstrating they meet the definition and provide supporting data from the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System.

• Allows up to 10 dropout recovery high schools to report results using an individual pupil growth model instead of other accountability indicators, subject to Superintendent certification that the model meets specified criteria.

• Excludes graduation rates for pupils in dropout recovery high schools from the Academic Performance Index (API) calculations.

• Specifies that Section 52052.3 (the individual pupil growth model provision) expires January 1, 2017, unless extended by later legislation.
