AB 2015 Summary

• Requires arresting or booking officers to inquire within 3 hours of arrest whether the arrested person is a custodial parent with responsibility for a minor child

• Entitles custodial parents to make 2 additional telephone calls at no expense (within local calling area) or at their own expense (outside local area) to arrange childcare

• Requires signs posted in police facilities and detention places in English and any non-English language spoken by a substantial number of the public served, informing arrestees of telephone call rights

• Specifies that all rights and duties under this section apply regardless of the arrestee's immigration status

• Makes willful deprivation of these telephone call rights a misdemeanor offense
