Charter school petitions must include detailed suspension and expulsion procedures specifying acts requiring mandatory suspension or expulsion versus discretionary suspension or expulsion, with evidence that procedures match those in noncharter public schools.

Charter school petitions must describe suspension and expulsion procedures including maximum suspension length, notification timeframes for parents and pupils, due process rights including hearing rights, and accommodation for pupils with disabilities.

Charter schools must notify the school district superintendent within 10 days (reduced from 30 days) when a pupil is expelled or leaves without graduating, and must provide the cumulative record without request, including the reason for departure.

Charter school petitions must include procedures for periodic review of suspension and expulsion policies.

If the Commission on State Mandates determines this bill creates state-mandated costs, reimbursement shall be made pursuant to Government Code provisions.
