AB 2249 Summary

• Expands definition of "solar water heating system" to include multifamily residential, governmental, nonprofit, and educational solar pool heating systems, while excluding only single-family residential solar pool heating systems.

• Removes requirement that PUC evaluate pilot program data before designing incentive program for installation of 200,000 solar water heating systems by 2017.

• Requires PUC to determine appropriate division of funds between solar water heating systems and solar pool heating systems, and to complete review by February 1, 2014 on whether rebate levels are sufficient to meet program goals.

• Mandates gas corporations or third-party administrators implement program changes no later than July 1, 2013.

• Specifies no state reimbursement is required as local agencies have authority to levy charges for program costs.
