AB 2285 Summary

• Establishes civil fine of up to $1,000 per occurrence for peace officer trainees who knowingly cheat on Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) mandated basic course examinations.

• Prohibits peace officer trainees from assisting others in cheating, aiding or abetting cheating, or knowingly concealing cheating efforts on basic course examinations.

• Defines "cheating" as any attempt or act by a peace officer trainee to gain an unfair advantage or give an unfair advantage to another trainee on a POST-mandated basic course examination.

• Applies to "peace officer trainees" defined as applicants for basic course examinations who have not been hired by a department or agency and have not been sworn as peace officers.
