AB 229 Summary

• State Auditor shall appoint an enforcement program monitor to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing by January 1, 2012, to monitor and evaluate the Division of Professional Practices for a period not exceeding two years.

• Enforcement program monitor shall focus on improving quality and consistency of misconduct reviews, reducing case backlogs and timeframes, establishing comprehensive written procedures, tracking cases effectively, and fostering a professional workplace environment.

• Enforcement program monitor shall submit initial written report by July 1, 2012, every six months thereafter, and a final report by January 1, 2014, to the State Auditor, Legislature, and Joint Legislative Audit Committee.

• Commission shall reimburse the State Auditor for all costs associated with the enforcement program monitor position.

• Section automatically repeals on January 1, 2014, unless a statute enacted before that date extends the provision; bill takes effect immediately as an urgency statute.
