AB 2490 Summary

• Requires the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to develop guidance policies to assist veteran inmates in pursuing federal veterans' benefits and other rights, preferences, care, or compensation available due to honorable military service.

• Authorizes the department to coordinate with the Department of Veterans Affairs, county veterans service officers, and veterans service organizations when developing these policies.

• Adds Chapter 4 to Division 8 of the Military and Veterans Code and Article 6 to the Penal Code to establish the requirement for these guidance policies.

• Became law on September 20, 2012 (Chapter 407).
