SB 1138 Summary

• Transfers data management responsibilities related to individual student data from the California Postsecondary Education Commission to the State Department of Education, effective January 1, 2013

• Requires the State Department of Education to coordinate with the State Board of Education and enter into an interagency agreement with the Chancellor's Office of the California Community Colleges to maintain the comprehensive postsecondary education database

• Requires the University of California Regents and California State University Trustees to provide annual reports to the Legislature by February 1 starting in the 2012-13 academic year detailing student fee expenditures, financial aid uses, and cost of education per student

• Directs the Legislative Analyst's Office to annually review and report to the Legislature on institutional compliance with policies regarding fee expenditures and financial aid, with reports due by March 1 each year

• Repeals the transferred data management provisions on January 1, 2015, unless extended by later legislation
