SB 1202 Summary

• Eliminates the "good standing" requirement for dental hygiene programs and allows any program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation to be approved by the committee.

• Requires registered dental hygienist licensure applicants to complete committee-approved instruction in gingival soft tissue curettage, nitrous oxide-oxygen analgesia, and local anesthesia.

• Prohibits examinees who fail the clinical examination three times or cause gross trauma to a patient from retesting until they complete remedial education at an approved program.

• Requires registered dental hygienists in alternative practice to register their place(s) of practice with the executive officer and establishes registration fees and requirements for additional practice locations and mobile dental hygiene clinics.

• Increases maximum fee amounts for original licenses, biennial renewals, and curriculum review/site evaluations for dental hygiene educational programs, and establishes new fees for extramural dental facility and mobile unit registration.
