CA SB1349

Prohibits public and private postsecondary educational institutions from requiring or requesting students, prospective students, or student groups to disclose usernames, passwords, or personal social media information.

Prohibits institutions from suspending, expelling, disciplining, threatening, or otherwise penalizing students for refusing to comply with social media disclosure requests.

Preserves institutions' existing rights to investigate student misconduct and violations of applicable laws and regulations.

Requires private nonprofit and for-profit postsecondary educational institutions to post their social media privacy policy on their Internet website.

Effective September 27, 2012.
