Extends Health Workforce Pilot Project No. 171 (Access through Primary Care Project) through January 1, 2014 to allow completion of peer-reviewed publication of project data.

Project trains nurse practitioners, certified nurse-midwives, and physician assistants to perform first trimester aspiration abortions and evaluates the safety and efficacy of these new skills.

Study data from University of California investigators demonstrates that trainees have achieved competency and safely perform the procedures using skills acquired in the project.

Extension permits continued training of new clinicians and maintenance of competencies for previously trained clinicians during the peer review and publication process.

Both sections of the bill automatically repeal on January 1, 2014, unless extended by subsequent legislation enacted before that date.
