Extends the statute of limitations for death benefit proceedings for firefighters and peace officers from 240 weeks to 480 weeks from the date of injury.

Allows death benefit claims to be commenced up to 480 weeks after injury and no more than one year after death, if the death results from specified job-related injuries under Sections 3212.1, 3212.6, or 3212.8.

Requires that proceedings be brought by or on behalf of dependents as they existed at the time of the employee's death.

Applies only to new claims with injuries occurring during active service in applicable firefighter or peace officer capacities.

Does not apply to claims already adjudicated, finalized, or with lapsed commencement periods as of December 31, 2013.
