Requires the Superintendent of Public Instruction to consider identifying existing computer science model curricula for kindergarten through grade 6 and recommending revisions or development of new curricula in that subject area.

Mandates the Superintendent submit any revised or newly developed model curricula to the State Board of Education for adoption by July 1, 2017.

Authorizes the Superintendent to seek and accept funding from nonstate sources, including federal funds, grants, and private funds, to support the identification, development, and revision of computer science curricula.

Specifies that the provisions of this article become inoperative on July 1, 2018, and are repealed on January 1, 2019, unless a later-enacted statute extends the deadline.

Declares the Legislature's intent to encourage computer science instruction programs beginning as early as feasible in each school district, with emphasis on reaching underrepresented student groups.
