Expands conditional examination of witnesses in human trafficking cases where defendants have been charged under Section 236.1 and victims or material witnesses are being dissuaded by intimidation or physical threat from cooperating or testifying.

Allows courts to conditionally examine witnesses if there is reasonable basis to believe they will not attend trial because they are under direct control of the defendant or another person involved in human trafficking who seeks to prevent testimony.

Amends affidavit requirements for conditional witness examination to include specific language addressing intimidation or threats in human trafficking cases.

Maintains existing provisions for conditional witness examination in serious felony and domestic violence cases.

Effective September 28, 2014.
