AB 1643 Summary

• County school attendance review boards may now accept referrals from one or more school districts within their jurisdiction and operate through consortiums or partnerships with school districts or other counties

• Added representatives from county district attorney and county public defender offices to both county and local school attendance review boards

• County school attendance review boards may meet as needed for conducting hearings, with the chairperson authorized to determine which members are needed based on the pupil's individual circumstances

• Changed county school attendance review boards' authority from providing "consultant services" to local boards to providing "guidance" to local boards

• Bill became effective September 30, 2014
