AB 1709 Summary

• Temporarily lowers the junior hunting license age requirement from under 16 to under 18 years old, effective July 1, 2015 through July 1, 2020, with a base fee of $8.25.

• Establishes a 2-day nonresident hunting license for ages 18 and older at the resident license fee ($31.25) during the temporary period from July 1, 2015 to July 1, 2020.

• Permanently changes the junior hunting license age requirement to under 16 years old (effective July 1, 2020), restoring the original age threshold for the discounted $8.25 license fee.

• Codifies existing regulations allowing 16 and 17-year-olds with valid hunting licenses and entry permits to hunt unaccompanied by adults but prohibits accompaniment by children under 16.

• Establishes automatic sunset of the temporary provisions on July 1, 2020, unless extended by statute enacted before January 1, 2021.
