AB 1810 Summary

• Defines an animal as abandoned if not picked up within 14 calendar days after the scheduled pickup date at a veterinarian, kennel, grooming facility, animal hospital, or similar care facility.

• Requires animal care facilities to attempt placement with a new owner or transfer to a public animal control agency, shelter, humane society, or nonprofit rescue group (with prior agreement) for at least 10 days before euthanasia.

• Authorizes euthanasia of abandoned animals if no placement can be found, with veterinarians permitted to perform the procedure.

• Prohibits abandoned animals from being used for scientific or other types of experimentation.

• Requires facilities to post conspicuous notice or provide written warning about abandonment provisions to persons depositing animals.
