Prohibits individuals from holding themselves out as athletic trainers or certified athletic trainers unless they are certified by the Board of Certification, Inc., and have either graduated from an accredited athletic training education program or completed Board of Certification eligibility requirements prior to January 1, 2004.

Designates use of terms "AT," "ATC," "CAT," "certified," "licensed," or "registered" to imply athletic trainer status without meeting requirements as an unfair business practice.

Allows individuals who worked as athletic trainers in California for 20 consecutive years prior to January 1, 2015, to use the title "athletic trainer" even if they do not otherwise meet certification requirements.
