AB 1919 Summary

• Establishes the California Immigrant Integration Task Force until January 1, 2017, to develop recommendations on integrating immigrants into California communities and the economy.

• Requires the Governor to appoint task force representatives by June 1, 2015, from state agencies, businesses, labor organizations, public safety, education, healthcare, faith-based organizations, and immigrant rights advocacy groups.

• Task force must submit a report by November 4, 2016, to the Governor and Legislature with recommendations on border security, economic development in countries of origin, DACA expansion, legal immigration visa processing, E-Verify programs, employment opportunities, English language acquisition, and immigrant contributions to California.

• Members receive no compensation but are reimbursed for necessary meeting expenses; task force is subject to the Bagley-Keene Open Meeting Act and California Public Records Act.

• Declared an urgency statute to take effect immediately in response to the influx of immigrant children from Central America.
