AB 1977 Summary

• Appropriates $82,243,000 from the General Fund to the Regents of the University of California for Student Academic Preparation and Educational Partnerships (SAPEP) programs
• Directs allocation of appropriated funds to SAPEP programs including the Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP), Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) program, and Puente program
• Expresses legislative intent to increase financial support for SAPEP programs and improve coordination between K-12 schools and postsecondary institutions to support underrepresented student groups
• Removed provisions that would have granted priority enrollment to SAPEP students in required high school and college courses and would have created state-mandated local program obligations
