AB 2052 Summary

• Expands workers' compensation coverage for full-time peace officers described in Penal Code Chapter 4.5 (Section 830 et seq.) to include hernia, heart trouble, and pneumonia as compensable injuries.

• Presumes hernia, heart trouble, and pneumonia developing during service arise out of employment; presumption extends 3 months for each year of service, up to 60 months post-termination.

• Extends cancer presumption coverage to full-time peace officers and adds biochemical substance exposure as a compensable injury for peace officers and fire department members.

• Includes tuberculosis and meningitis as compensable injuries for peace officers, corrections officers, and firefighters employed on regular full-time salary basis.

• Requires full hospital, surgical, medical treatment, disability indemnity, and death benefits for all covered occupational illnesses and injuries.
