AB 2057 Summary

• Requires the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) to include an alternate performance assessment in English language arts and mathematics for grades 3 to 8 and grade 11, and continues the California Alternate Performance Assessment for science in grades 5, 8, and 10.

• Mandates the State Board of Education adopt an alternate performance assessment in English language arts and mathematics for full implementation in the 2015-16 school year, unless the board determines implementation is not feasible.

• Requires local educational agencies to administer field tests measuring specified content standards in grades 3 to 8 and grade 11 for the 2014-15 school year, with field test results to be used only for validity and reliability studies, not for accountability measures.

• Requires the Department of Education to submit a report to the Legislature, State Board, school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools by February 1, 2015, on the status of successor alternate assessments and field tests.

• Authorizes the department to apply for a federal waiver from the United States Department of Education for students participating in field tests.
