AB 2217 Summary

• Public schools may solicit and receive nonstate funds to acquire, maintain, and provide training for automated external defibrillators (AEDs)

• School district employees are protected from civil liability for acts or omissions in rendering emergency care using an AED if they comply with Civil Code Section 1714.21

• Public schools and school districts are covered by Civil Code Section 1714.21 and protected from civil liability for emergency care involving an AED if they comply with Health and Safety Code Section 1797.196

• Liability protections do not apply in cases of gross negligence or willful/wanton misconduct by the person using or maliciously failing to use an AED

• The bill does not alter existing requirements under Health and Safety Code Section 1797.196
