Elections officials must submit one or more progress reports to the Secretary of State during signature verification showing the number of verified signatures as of each report date.

Secretary of State must maintain a list of verified signatures and notify all county/city elections officials if a petition reaches the requisite number of valid signatures before verification is complete.

Elections officials may suspend signature verification immediately upon receiving notification that a petition has obtained sufficient verified signatures, rather than continuing to verify all signatures.

For county initiative petitions, elections officials may terminate verification of remaining unverified signatures once they determine the petition has obtained the requisite number of qualified voter signatures.

Reimbursement to local agencies for state-mandated costs shall be made pursuant to Government Code Part 7.
