AB 2737 Summary

• Requires the State Department of Public Health to develop and implement pilot projects in Salinas Valley, Tulare Lake Basin, and Coachella Valley to identify schools and communities with high levels of arsenic or nitrate contamination in drinking water.

• Mandates the department work cooperatively with community-based nonprofit organizations to develop interim and long-term solutions for safe drinking water and provide technical assistance to those organizations.

• Requires pilot projects to remain in effect for a minimum of three years and include consideration of point-of-use or point-of-entry water treatment systems based on cost and effectiveness.

• Requires the department to submit a report to the Legislature upon completion of the pilot projects detailing results, including installation costs and operations and maintenance costs for a minimum of three years.
