AB 638 Summary

• Amends Labor Code Section 5502 to require cases involving illegally uninsured employers be placed on the priority conference calendar for expedited hearings and decisions
• Expands the priority conference calendar to include cases where the employee has an illegally uninsured employer and the disputed issues are employment or injury
• Requires the Administrative Director to conduct priority conferences within 30 days of filing a declaration of readiness to proceed
• Maintains existing expedited hearing requirements (within 30 days) for medical treatment, temporary disability, and other specified disputes
• Applies to cases where discovery is incomplete; status conferences shall be held at regular intervals until discovery is complete or the judge determines sufficient time has been allowed
