AB 834 Summary

• Allows law schools exempt from the California Private Postsecondary Education Act that apply for bureau approval to satisfy School Performance Fact Sheet requirements through an alternate method
• Law schools meeting specified criteria may comply by following American Bar Association Standard 509 and providing completion rates, bar passage rates, placement rates, and salary information through the Law School Admission Council application process
• Requires qualifying law schools to provide additional information not covered by ABA standards (including three-year cohort default rates and percentage of students receiving federal loans) on their websites to prospective students
• Mandates qualifying law schools annually submit required disclosure information to the bureau, which must post it on its Internet website
• Took effect immediately upon governor approval on July 23, 2014
