AB 883 Summary

• Establishes a Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Program pilot in no more than 3 counties selected by the State Department of Social Services based on criteria including significant incidence of child sexual abuse and availability of experienced nonprofit organizations to administer the program.

• Appropriates $50,000 annually from the General Fund to each selected county to provide child sexual abuse prevention and intervention services through public or private nonprofit agencies.

• Requires eligible agencies to demonstrate that proposed services are not duplicated in the community, are based on needs of at-risk children, and are supported by a local public agency such as the county welfare department, law enforcement, probation, public health, or mental health department.

• Mandates participating counties submit annual reports to the State Department of Social Services and relevant legislative committees detailing public awareness changes, educational materials distributed, statistics on child sexual abuse reports, and identified best practices for replication by other counties.

• Sunsets on January 1, 2019 unless extended by later-enacted legislation.
