AB 908 Summary

• Permits the Director of Employment Development to share unemployment insurance information with peace officers from the Investigations Division of the Department of Motor Vehicles when designated by the Chief and investigating identity theft, counterfeiting, document fraud, or consumer fraud with reasonable suspicion of a felony.

• Requires requesting peace officers to submit written reports of received information to the Department of Motor Vehicles under normal procedures for those investigations.

• Expands unauthorized access, use, or disclosure of unemployment insurance information to include the new criminal provision by making it apply to peace officers improperly accessing this information for prohibited purposes.

• Exempts the state from reimbursing local agencies and school districts for costs under Article XIII B of the California Constitution because the act creates a new crime.
