Recognizes August 20, 2014, as the 50th anniversary of the signing of the federal Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, which President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law as part of his "unconditional war on poverty in America"

Honors individuals and organizations working to address poverty in California, including those raising awareness, developing solutions, and identifying needs of low-income communities

Notes that poverty remains a significant challenge in Southern California with lower than average educational attainment, low median household income, high poverty rates, and one in four children living below the poverty line

Urges the federal government and other states to recognize the ongoing fight against poverty and continue working toward economic prosperity and increased awareness of difficulties facing low-income individuals
