SB 1101 Summary

• Prohibits campaign contributions to Members of the Legislature during: (1) the period from when the Director of Finance provides budget revisions to the date the Budget Bill is enacted, (2) the 30 days before the Legislature adjourns in odd-numbered years, and (3) August 1-31 in even-numbered years.

• Exempts contributions for a Member's candidacy for an elective state office voted upon at a special election from the contribution ban.

• Authorizes each house of the Legislature to impose disciplinary action including reprimand, censure, suspension, or expulsion against Members who violate the contribution restrictions.

• Declares that violations are subject to existing criminal penalties under the Political Reform Act of 1974.

• Takes effect immediately as an urgency statute to implement the restrictions prior to the 2014 General Election.
