Extends leave of absence without loss of salary to additional peace officers with work-related injuries or illnesses, including deputy sheriffs in custodial assignments, court marshals and deputy marshals, certain park rangers, and California Community College police officers

Provides eligible employees up to one year of paid leave in lieu of temporary disability payments, or until retirement on permanent disability pension, whichever is earlier

Excludes administrative and support staff (telephone operators, clerks, stenographers, mechanics) whose duties do not fall within active law enforcement or firefighting service

Clarifies that leave taken under this section does not count toward or reduce family care and medical leave entitlements under Government Code Section 12945.2

Exempts employees of the City and County of San Francisco from these provisions
