SB 1239 Summary

• School districts eligible for concentration funding under the local control funding formula must employ at least one school nurse as a supervisor of health, effective July 1, 2016

• Supervisor of health must oversee other school nurses, registered nurses, or licensed vocational nurses employed by the district or contracted through county offices of education

• School districts must consider pupil health care acuity, distance/travel time between schools, and total student population when determining the number of supervised nurses

• School districts may bill pupils' health insurers or the Medi-Cal program for health care services provided by employed or contracted nurses

• Any nurses hired under this section must supplement, not replace, existing school district employees
