CA SB1265

Requires the Department of General Services to establish a minimum fuel economy standard for state fleet purchases of passenger vehicles and light duty trucks powered by internal combustion engines or multiple sources, including nonplug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

Mandates all new state vehicle fleet purchases of these vehicle types meet the established fuel economy standard, which must exceed the standard that existed on January 1, 2007.

Exempts plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and battery electric vehicles from the fuel economy standard requirement.

Exempts authorized emergency vehicles and vehicles purchased to provide services to individuals with disabilities or as reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities.

Applies to all state departments, boards, commissions, California Community Colleges, California State University, and University of California, unless the UC Regents opt out by resolution.
