SB 1405 Summary

• Requires school designees to submit annual pesticide use records to the Director of Pesticide Regulation if a schoolsite uses pesticides not listed in Section 17610.5, using a standardized form by the Department of Pesticide Regulation.

• Mandates school designees to develop and post an integrated pest management plan on the schoolsite or school district website (or include in annual parent notification if no website exists) if pesticides outside Section 17610.5 are used.

• Requires the Department of Pesticide Regulation to develop a training course covering integrated pest management and safe pesticide use specific to schoolsites and children's health, effective July 1, 2016.

• Mandates school designees and all persons applying pesticides at schoolsites to complete annual training; hired pest control applicators must complete at least one-hour training before application, with training counting toward continuing education requirements.

• Establishes that violations of the training requirements are not crimes, and clarifies that no state reimbursement is required as costs result from changes to criminal penalties.
