SB 1442 Summary

• Requires elected state officers, candidates for state office, and their committees to file quarterly campaign statements instead of semiannual statements, with deadlines in April, July, October, and January.

• Expands definitions of "late contributions" and "late independent expenditures" to include those made on election day, in addition to those made within 90 days before the election.

• Requires the Secretary of State to develop a statewide Internet-based system for electronic filing and public display of campaign finance records, statements of organization, and related filings for state candidates and committees.

• Repeals supplemental preelection statement requirements, supplemental independent expenditure reports, and odd-numbered year reporting requirements for state-level filers.

• Makes all reporting requirement changes effective January 1 of the year following certification that the statewide electronic filing system becomes operational.
