SB 1466 Summary

• Prohibits hearing aid dispensers from employing physicians, surgeons, or non-dispensing audiologists for fitting or selling hearing aids, mirroring existing restrictions on physicians and surgeons.

• Deletes obsolete regulatory deadlines (January 1, 2009 and January 1, 2013) for Medical Board adoption of regulations regarding laser and intense light pulse devices for cosmetic procedures.

• Expands death reporting requirements for physicians performing medical procedures outside hospitals to include both scheduled and unscheduled procedures within 15 days.

• Increases maximum supervised clinical practice hours for speech-language pathologists and audiologists from 300 to 375 clock hours and eliminates transcript submission requirements from board-approved institutions.

• Implements transition provisions allowing certain marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, and professional clinical counselors to renew registrations or obtain subsequent registration numbers between January 1, 2016 and January 1, 2017 without first passing California law and ethics examinations.
