SB 1467 Summary

• Removes requirement that 2 California Board of Accountancy members represent small public professional firms; authorizes board to collect (but not require) email addresses from CPA applicants, which shall remain confidential and not subject to public records disclosure.

• Allows board to authorize academic experience to satisfy the one-year qualifying experience requirement for CPA licensure; modifies practice privilege requirements to mandate written notice of pending criminal charges (other than minor traffic violations) to the board within 30 days.

• Requires civil engineering plans for hospitals/medical facilities with surgery and emergency areas and public school structures to be prepared by or under responsible charge of a licensed structural engineer; eliminates 8-hour examination requirement for equivalent second division professional engineer examinations.

• Deletes provisions relating to petroleum geologist certification; establishes procedures for disciplined geologists and geophysicists to petition for reinstatement or penalty modification after specified minimum periods.

• Requires at least one person authorized to practice land surveying be designated in responsible charge for state and local governmental entities; makes governmental agencies responsible for ensuring monument perpetuation during construction or maintenance work; expands professional photocopier registration requirements to maintain valid notary commissions.
