SB 199 Summary

• Eliminates the 6 millimeter caliber restriction from the definition of "BB device" effective January 1, 2016, expanding the scope to include larger projectile BB and pellet guns.

• Makes BB devices that expel 6mm or 8mm caliber projectiles subject to imitation firearm regulations unless they meet specific coloration or construction requirements (bright colors or transparent materials).

• Requires airsoft guns expelling 6mm or 8mm projectiles to have fluorescent-colored trigger guards and adhesive bands applied to specific parts (handguns and rifles) in addition to the federally-required blaze orange barrel ring.

• Excludes spot marker guns expelling projectiles larger than 10mm caliber and all BB devices expelling projectiles other than 6mm or 8mm caliber from imitation firearm restrictions.

• Expands existing crimes related to furnishing or selling BB devices to minors without parental permission.
