AB 1363 Summary

• Expands the definition of "estray" to include alpacas, llamas, and goats in addition to existing categories of bovine animals, horses, mules, sheep, swine, and burros.

• Changes the requirement for seized or impounded animals from being "disposed of" to being "managed" pursuant to Food and Agricultural Code Chapter 17.

• Requires poundkeepers, pound officers, and public animal control agencies to immediately notify the Secretary of Food and Agriculture when alpacas, llamas, or goats are impounded, in addition to existing notification requirements for other livestock.

• Allows cities, counties, or city and counties with existing estray laws to continue following those local regulations for non-bovine estrays rather than state law.

• Specified that no state reimbursement is required because the bill creates a new crime or changes the definition of existing crimes.
