State Fire Marshal must work with fire service entities, appliance industry, disability advocates, and stakeholders by December 31, 2016 to gather information about type 1 clothes dryer fires and excessive lint dangers.

State Fire Marshal must provide findings and recommendations to the Legislature regarding clothes dryer fire prevention and encourage amendments to national safety standards to reduce lint-related fires.

"Type 1 clothes dryer" is defined as appliances used in residential living environments, including coin-operated dryers for public use in residential settings, but excludes commercial dryers.

Legislature finds that excess dryer lint contributes to residential fires, with the National Fire Prevention Association reporting 16,950 annual home fires involving dryers (2006-2010) causing 34 deaths, 430 injuries, and $209 million in property damage.

Section 13113.95 of the Health and Safety Code is added and automatically repealed on January 1, 2017, unless extended by later enacted statute.
