AB 1662 Summary

• Requires operators of unmanned aircraft systems (drones) involved in accidents causing injury or property damage to immediately land the aircraft at the nearest safe location

• Mandates operators provide their identification, name, and current residence address to injured individuals or property owners, or leave written notice at the damaged property with accident details

• Commercial drone operators must also provide their employer's name and business address in the same manner as personal identification

• Violations are punishable as an infraction (up to $250 fine) or misdemeanor (up to 6 months jail and/or $1,000 fine)

• Exempts law enforcement operating drones within employment scope, recreational sports operators (unless damage to non-participant property), and operators with FAA commercial authorizations or exemptions
